A Saviour is Born

SATB Choir & Piano
words and Music by Joannie Ing

An original work that tells Christmas story, scored for SATB and piano (with optional violin). The lyrical inspiration comes from Luke 2:11 in the Bible: “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Winner of the Amadeus Choir’s 2015 Christmas Songwriting Competition.

Performed by the Amadeus Choir (Toronto, 2015)

Verse 1

There were no rooms in the inn that day
Jesus Christ child was born
Instead, in manger bed He lay
That blessed Christmas morn, oh that blessed Christmas morn!

Verse 2

Wise men travelled from afar
With frankincense, myrrh and gold
“We’ve come to worship, we followed the star
As prophet Isaiah foretold.”

Chorus

A Saviour is born! Come and rejoice!
A Saviour is born! Proclaim in one voice
Alleluia, alleluia
We sing Alleluia to the King of Kings!

Verse 3

Angels of the Lord appeared
As shepherds watched flocks by night
The Christ child is born, so have no fear!
He’s God’s eternal light!

Verse 4

The story of Christmas, of Virgin birth
A wonder from God above
Good will to men and peace on earth
A message of hope and love
